3 Essential Tips For Beat Leasing Producers To Increase Profitability

In 2019 the beat leasing community continues to grow in both profitability and popularity, with platforms such as Airbit, Beatstars and Soundclick available to us, Producers are now becoming more independent and earning a steady stream of revenue by providing an e-commerce like experience to artists on the lookout for high quality music production at a price that won’t break the bank.

But with so many young and hungry producers out there, how do you make yourself stand out?

You want the visitors that come to your site to actually buy beats, not just browse and leave, building an audience of your own is the most profitable way to do that, but what do you need to do to actually achieve that?

Most people will naturally gravitate towards just being active on social media, and while platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Youtube shouldn’t go untouched, you need to understand that building a brand solely on these platforms, isn’t as easy as public perception says it is.

Today what you’ll learn are 3 essential tips for beat leasing producers to increase profitability and grow their beat stores.

How to Practically Build An Audience

Building an audience is a hit-and-miss subject, yes there is a science to it, and yes sometimes that science is torn to shreds by sheer luck!

However, the cold reality is that building a Beat leasing business from the ground up is just as difficult as building any business, it doesn’t matter what you sell, getting people to care enough about what you do for them to give you money is the first challenge you’ll be up against.

With that being said, there are a number of practical ways you can use to start the process of getting eyeballs to your website and ears listening to your beats.

Tip #1 – Learn SEO

If I were to give you five guesses, would you be able to tell me what the number one reason is for most music producers not making it far enough to be outside of their own front doors?

That’s right! It’s the complete obsession that most of us suffer with, we love to be in the studio and make music our 24/7, but as commendable as it is to be that dedicated to what you do, spending all of your time in the studio only leaves you with no time to promote your product.

But, how do you do it?

Well, that question has a million different answers, but i’ll give you the only answer i know to be 100% fact.

Optimising your website for search engines and getting onto page one of Google is not only one of the best skills you can learn as an online business owner in 2018, but if you do it the right way, you’re setting your business up for longevity and increased profitability.

SEO is without a doubt a lot of hard work to master, but once you do, you have every potential to create a business with massive profits!

This is because when you’re utilising SEO as a traffic source you’re building your website’s reputation for free and getting into Google’s good books, most of the time costing you nothing more than patience and the willingness to learn.

Tip #2 – Branding/Building a Reputation

When I talk to most Artists and Music Producers about branding the look of utter confusion wiped all over their face astounds me, this may not be a dictionary definition or even technically correct, but to me in 2021 branding can mean a lot of different things.

Yes, a big part of branding may be having a great logo and a fancy website, but in this day and age branding can also coincide with reputation and with a great reputation comes trust, so if you don’t have a great reputation, why would you expect anyone to trust you enough to buy a beat?

A lot of Producers when they first start out will follow the same process as many before them, sign up for a SoundCloud account, start putting beat videos up on YouTube and then gradually begin to spam their family and friends with the same link several times a day on Facebook.

This is in 2018 no longer works and probably never did!

The real art is doing these things with a strategic mindset that gives value to other people and starts to build a brand and a positive reputation.

Firstly if you’re going to utilise social networks as tools to develop brand awareness, then learning as much as you can about what each platform classifies as native content is imperative.

Here is an example, have you ever wondered why posting a YouTube link on Facebook never does as well as uploading it natively?

That’s right, Youtube and Facebook are HUGE competitors, So why would Facebook want to send traffic to YouTube?… (It may be tempting to save time so that you can get back to making beats, but in the long run this attitude will only harm your brand)

It has to be said that the easiest way to serve your community and grow your brand is to teach your community, some ways that I do this are for instance: coach music producers how to use Logic Pro X, teach Artists how to distribute their music with ease, give advice from personal experience.

Both skills one and two combined have allowed me to achieve results such as having video tutorials with thousands of hits!

Tip #3 – Build Traffic Sources You’re In Control Of

Email list building is known to be up to 40 times more effective than Social Media and most other forms of traffic and in truth, it is the only form of communication today that you’re 100% in control of.

That may be confusing, but hear me out…

Practically every source of traffic is controlled by an algorithm, and that is something that you personally have NO control over, meaning that if you have been going against Google’s or Facebook’s guidelines you can run the risk of being penalised and essentially be sent back to the stone ages.

With email marketing, you don’t have that risk, when a potential buyer willingly gives you their email address, they are saying that they want to hear more from you again, maybe you’ve caught their eye with an in-depth article or maybe they’ve seen your beat video on Youtube.

The point being is that YOU own your email list!

So if Facebook or Google shuts down, you’re covered!

Think of every source that drives traffic to your site simply as distribution, if you’re 100% in control of those sources (especially the ones that make you revenue), the possibilities of what your beat store can become are endless.
